Lake Of The Ozarks Home Lift Installation Project
Mrs. P has beautiful home in Roach, Missouri (Lake of the Ozarks) that her and her late husband designed and built. After a fall down the stairs resulted in a broken neck she reached out to us to see what her options were for retrofitting an elevator into the home. We discussed placement options for a Stiltz Trio Alta home lift and came up with a few protentional locations. After many months of weighing her options she gave us a call and said she was ready to move forward.
Mrs. P was concerned about modifying the home in any way because it was so special to her and her late husband. She really wanted and needed the home lift installed but she was having a hard time seeing it in her home. After a conversation with her two son’s we decided on a location by the front door of the home that would allow for minimal modification to the flow and sightlines of the home but still provide practical access and use of the home lift.
This location came with some challenges because it involved shrinking and reconfiguring the entry closet upstairs. Because of the ceramic tile floor we had to carefully remove just enough tile for the elevator hole to be cut without damaging the surrounding tile since there was just enough extra pieces from when the home was built to reinstall around the elevator.
In the basement Mrs. P has a drop ceiling and we wanted to ensure that the Stiltz blended seamlessly when we were finished so we ordered a floor insert extension directly from Stiltz. This extension allows us to run the ceiling tiles in such a way that it looks as though the home elevator had always been there. Because the floor joists in this home were an engineered product and we had significant roof load on a bearing wall near the elevator we opted to use a LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) beam and header in order to properly support the floor system.
After four long days we finished Mrs. P’s home lift installation and her and her sons couldn’t be happier. Her sons no longer have to worry about their mother navigating the stairs while living alone and Mrs. P feels that the Trio Alta looks like it was always there thanks to some carful configuration. She can now safely access her gorgeous lake front property safely whenever she pleases.
First Class Elevator gave us the peace of mind that our mother can now move around her home alone freely, and safely.
